Why do so many people want to invest in real estate?
Ultimately, it’s because of the freedom it provides: freedom of money, freedom of time, and freedom from being beholden to others.
Recently I went to a conference full of resilient women. Here is just a sampling of their stories.
- An attorney whose husband divorced and bankrupted her after 49 years of marriage, who also needed to care for a disabled daughter.
- A woman who immigrated to the US at 18 to escape terrorism in her home country, learned English, earned an MBA, and built a real estate empire.
- A woman who lost her husband when she had two teenagers to raise.
- A woman who had two children via in vitro fertilization and raised them on her own while running a business.
- A woman with five kids whose husband dragged her through a two-year divorce to claim more of her assets.
Lessons Learned
- Hardship will come in life. Set your family up to prepare for it, and it will be less hard when it arrives.
- Never give up. Defeat only comes if you give up.
- Have multiple income streams to protect your family.
- Don’t make excuses. Life is too short to live with that kind of regret.
Bonus lesson: live life with an open hand. If you live generously toward others, it comes back in so many amazing ways.
These aren’t new lessons, but we all need reminding of them as we go through life. I came away encouraged and inspired to live life fully. Hearing these stories of both success and hardship is a true reflection of what we all go through.
